Coming off of a week filled with finales, this week was the stragglers and summer shows that are still running. Lucifer had what appears to be an unofficial season finale, Gotham is wrapping up with a two part finale next week, and iZombie has two weeks before going on summer hiatus.
Fair warning, spoilers and twists are ahead, proceed at your discretion.
#1 – Lucifer
Season 3 Episode 20 – Heroes Rise: Pretty Hate Machine
Synopsis – After Charlotte accidentally charbroils a man to death in self-defense, Lucifer must try and keep Chloe from figuring out the truth. Lucifer puts Maze in charge of finding Charlotte and Amenadiel, who have both gone missing in light of recent circumstances, while he finds a permanent solution for the ticking-time-bomb he calls Mom.
Thoughts – Charlotte (Tricia Helfer) has outdone herself as an overbearing mother, taking Chloe (Lauren German) hostage in order to get the blade. Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) finally uses his time controlling powers again. Lucifer (Tom Ellis) had two of the best lines, “If you go back to Heaven there will be war, and with war there are always casualties” and “Let there be light”. The ending is a great cliff hanger, and I can’t wait until the next episode or season.
#2 – Gotham
Season 3 Episode 20 – Heroes Rise: Pretty Hate Machine
Synopsis – Gordon races against the clock to save the city from the Alice Tetch virus, when Lee Thompkins intercepts with a plan of her own. Also, Alfred sees a big change in Bruce Wayne after his work with The Shaman. Meanwhile, some of Gotham’s most deranged villains band together.
Thoughts – The court of owls takes a large blow when the absentee head returns with Bruce (David Mazouz). Lee (Morena Baccarin) is downright terrifyingly cruel while on the crazy serum. Oswald (Robin Lord Taylor) and Nygma (Cory Michael Smith)’s feud is the plot line that I care most about at this point, and for what it’s worth I’m rooting for Nygma.
#3 – iZombie
Season 3 Episode 09 – Twenty-Sided, Die
Synopsis – When a Dungeon Master is killed, Liv and Clive discover he was up to more than just playing in his mother’s basement. Meanwhile, Blaine’s experiment does not go as planned. Lastly, Ravi finds stumbles across some new information that could prove deadly.
Thoughts – I had a few gripes with this episode, not the least of which being that the progression from basing Dungeons and Dragons to Clive (Malcolm Goodwin) becoming a fan and wanting to finish their campaign was extremely predictable. I did however like the return of FBI agent Dale Bozzio (Jessica Harmon) as well as Stacey Boss (Eddie Jemison). I am excited to see where Major (Robert Buckley)’s new love interest takes him.
